Rizwan Sajan
The founder of Dubai’s Danube Group, built from a building-materials trade into a major regional supplier and property developer.
Rizwan Sajan grew up in Mumbai and learned business at his uncle’s building-materials store in Kuwait before founding the Danube Group in Dubai in 1993. What began as a building-materials trading firm grew into a diversified group spanning building materials, the DanubeHome décor brand and, from 2014, the real-estate developer Danube Properties, with a reported annual turnover of around two billion dollars and a presence across the Gulf and India.
Danube Properties has become one of Dubai’s active mid-market developers, delivering a string of residential projects and building a reputation for affordable-luxury homes and ahead-of-schedule handovers. Sajan is regularly listed among the region’s leading Indian business figures.
He is also known for community giving: the Danube Group pledged to build mosques across the UAE, a programme under which several have been completed. A long-time Dubai resident, Sajan has written about his journey from a modest Mumbai upbringing to building one of the emirate’s well-known family businesses.
