Sir Tim Clark

A founding member of Emirates in 1985 and its long-serving president, who helped build the Dubai carrier into a global airline.

Sir Tim Clark joined the founding team of Emirates in Dubai in 1985 as head of airline planning, after earlier roles at British Caledonian and Gulf Air. He became president of the airline in 2003 and has overseen its growth into one of the world’s largest long-haul carriers, central to Dubai’s emergence as a global aviation hub.

Under his leadership Emirates built a fleet anchored by the Airbus A380 and Boeing 777 and a network reaching six continents from its Dubai base. Clark, who also served as managing director of SriLankan Airlines between 1998 and 2008, is widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in modern commercial aviation.

He was appointed a Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire (KBE) in the 2014 New Year Honours for services to British prosperity and the aviation industry, and has received France’s Légion d’Honneur. He co-founded and chairs the Emirates Airline Foundation, the carrier’s charitable arm.
